What is a CMPS (Certified Mortgage Planning Specialist)?

The Certified Mortgage Planning Specialist (CMPS) designation is the first, and most widely recognized mortgage planning certification in the industry. The CMPS Institute teaches loan originators the tools to be able to assist homebuyers in the following areas:

  • Mortgage & Real Estate Taxation – understand the tax implications of various mortgage strategies.
  • Housing, Financial & Mortgage Markets – understand why interest rates fluctuate and how the housing, financial and mortgage markets work.
  • Cash Flow Planning for Homeowners & Buyers – how to reduce debt, improve cash flow and identify mortgage planning opportunities around retirement planning, college funding, elder care, and other life events.
  • Cash Flow Planning for Real Estate Investors – how to compare options and evaluate the impact of various mortgage strategies on your rate of return.

Through the CMPS curriculum, I have attained the skills necessary to help home buyers:

  • Compare loan options more effectively
  • Consider housing and mortgage decisions in the context of their overall financial situation
  • Make smarter choices when it comes to debt, cash flow and real estate investment

Mortgage Planning is the process of carefully evaluating your mortgage options and choosing the right mortgage strategies. Your mortgage is most often your single largest debt, and your home is most often your single largest financial investment. That’s why mortgage planning should not be a do-it-yourself endeavor, but rather a collaborative effort with a Certified Mortgage Planning Specialist (CMPS).
